DownSteam Toowoomba

DownSteam Toowoomba serves as a dedicated rail heritage centre located in the suburb of Drayton. The facility focuses on the preservation and restoration of historic locomotives and carriages, providing a hands-on look at Queensland's transport history. Visitors can explore various exhibits, including the Pride of Toowoomba steam engine and a selection of refurbished passenger coaches. The site operates primarily through the efforts of local volunteers who maintain the machinery and share technical knowledge with the public. Situated near the University of Southern Queensland, this museum offers a cultural destination for residents and tourists visiting the Toowoomba region. The displays highlight the evolution of rail travel and its impact on regional development. Guests have the opportunity to walk through restored train compartments and view the workshop areas where active restoration projects take place. The centre organises regular open days and special events to promote local heritage and engage the broader community in railway preservation.
