About HMAS Diamantina
HMAS Diamantina is a decommissioned River-class frigate permanently dry-docked at the Queensland Maritime Museum within the Brisbane City region. Launched in 1944, the vessel participated in significant Pacific operations and later served as a dedicated oceanographic survey ship. Visitors can explore the original galley, bridge, and engine rooms, gaining insight into the living conditions and operational duties of the Royal Australian Navy personnel who served on board during the mid-twentieth century.
The museum ship remains one of the few surviving frigates of its type globally and is situated near the South Bank Parklands. The site features various maritime artefacts and informative plaques detailing the ship's role in historical events, including the Japanese surrender ceremonies at the end of the war. Its position on the riverbank provides a practical destination for those interested in naval engineering and Australian heritage while exploring the central business district.
